Franciszek Bunsch

   Franciszek Bunsch is a son of a painter Adam Bunsch and Lundwika nee Kunaszowska. He was born in Bielsko in 1926. He married a painter and graphic artist Krystyna Gruchalska in 1950. The couple have a son Jacek who is a theatre director. Franciszek Bunsch studied painting under the guidance of Eugeniusz Eibisch and graphic art as a student of Prof. Andrzej Jurkiewicz, Prof. Ludwik Gardowski and Prof. Konrad Srzednicki at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow. Then he continued his education at the Akademie Vytvamych Umeni in Prague for two years.
   Between 1952 and 1965 he was an assistant to Prof. Ludwik Gardowski in the studio of wood engraving at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow. After Prof.Gardowski's retirement he became the head of the studio which he managed until he retired in 1996. In the meantime, in 1990 he was awarded the title of a full professor. At the Academy he had different programme and organizational duties. He held the post of the Vice Rector twice in the years 1972-1975 and 1984-1987.
   He showed his works in various exhibitions in Poland (all-Poland and regional events) and abroad in such countries as: Belgium, Holland, the Soviet Union, Denmark, Norway, German Democratic Republic, Austria, Czechoslovakia, Venezuela, Uruguay, Mexico, Mexico, France, Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, Sweden, Canada, Switzerland, Turkey, Japan, Finland, Algeria, Tunisia, the USA, Island, Spain, German Federal Republic, Cuba, and Hungary.
